My first plans for the day went a little awry.
I was supposed to spend the afternoon at a music festival in Coney Island; I was going to be meeting some friends at noon. I was running late, then got stuck on a slow subway, so I got myself into a real state of panic and was frantically calling and sending messages the whole way, trying to figure out where on the boardwalk I should be. Without hearing back from the friends I was meeting. I found my way to the venue an hour after it was supposed to start.
My party wasn't there.
I hung around an hour, wandering along the boardwalk, looking for them and calling; no luck. By that point, I was hot, a little grumpy, and not all that interested in the music I was hearing. I splurged on one ride on the Wonder Wheel and decided to head for home.
About halfway, I saw the subway I was on had a connection to the N and R line; and remembered that that subway went straight to the Greenmarket in Union Square. Where I hadn't been to in a while. I switched trains. And when I got to the greenmarket, I went completely fruit stupid.
I now have four pounds of peaches, two pounds each of apricots and plums, and three quarts of blueberries. I've divvied up some of each to go towards a huge orgy of jam tomorrow, and I'm freezing some of each for fruit smoothies (note to self, get a big thing of yogurt for this purpose). And of course, a number of peaches just for the eating now.
In fact, all y'all, have a recipe for the easiest dessert ever; take some ricotta cheese, sweeten it with a little honey, and whip it in a food processor or with a whisk until it's kind of a whipped cream consistency. Then use that as a topping for a sliced peach. That's it.
(Note to self -- ricotta cheese, too.)

The peach is in line behind the apricot/raspberry and the blueberry. I have the plum done, though.
And the strawberry liqueur is bottled. It needs to sit until February, but I've decanted it into the six little bottles that will eventually go to people (I have one set aside for you guys, and thre others are spoken for).
...Trade. Wait. Do you have Pomona brand Pectin for sale at work? Or, do you have any heads-up on when certain fruits come into season? (I'm making plain peach, but there's a blackberry-peach I'd also like to make soon.)

...Let me know if they're going to be around a while, because I just spent over a hundred dollars on mason jars and liqueur bottles yesterday and I'm thinking I should wait until next Saturday to go get more, so it could be a couple weeks before I can attempt this.
Wait, no, I can freeze them first. That's okay.
